NC State (15-5) only has one loss in ACC play and they have won 3 straight and 9 of their last 10 games and they will likely be ranked if they can win this big rivalry game. However, that is easier said than done facing a UNC (16-3) team that leads the nation in both scoring and rebounding. The Tar Heels lost starting PG Dexter Strickland (7.2 ppg) for the season with a torn ACL and his loss may be big. UNC also only has 1 loss in ACC play and after their loss to Florida State they blew out Virginia Tech by 14 points in their last game. NC State is 0-2 against ranked teams this season.

In their last games UNC crushed Virginia Tech 82-68 and NC State beat Miami 78-73.

This season North Carolina is 10-8 ATS with an O/U record of 9-9 and NC State is 8-8 ATS with an O/U record 10-6.

Last season the Tar Heels won both of their match ups against the Wolfpack.

NC State not only has to deal with the nation’s top scoring team, but they will have to do it with a defense that has struggled this season and only ranks 212th in the nation in opponents’ points allowed.

For the Wolfpack to have any chance to win this game they will have to play good D against the solid frontcourt duo of Harrison Barnes (17.4 ppg 4.8 rpg) and John Henson (14.5 ppg 10.1 rpg). In the win over Virginia Tech Barnes went for 27 points and Henson grabbed 16 boards. Henson is 6’11” and will be a major handful for the Wolfpack.

Scott Wood (13.3 ppg) leads UNC in scoring and in his last 3 games he has hit 10 of his 19 3-pointers. He, C.J. Leslie (12.8 ppg 6.2 rpg), and Richard Howell (11.9 ppg 9.4 rpg) must score as well as keep the Tar Heels from dominating the boards. However, none of these guys are over 6’8” so they have to body up on the big guys of UNC.

The Tar Heels are one of the most athletic teams in the nation and NC State must be careful with the rock and not turn the ball over. Also, even though they are a legit team on offense ranking 33rd in the nation in scoring they may want to slow the pace down and not get into a high-tempo game.

In some betting trends for this ACC rival game NC State is 2-3 ATS in their last 5 games and in their last 5 games the posted total has gone Over 3 times.

North Carolina is 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games and in their last 6 games the posted total has gone Over 4 times.
