The Steelers (1-2) had a bye last week and they are hoping to figure things out after losing to the weak Raiders in their last game. They do not have an easy task facing an Eagles’ team that is coming off a solid win and is sitting at 3-1 atop of the tough NFC East. The Eagles got a good game from Michael Vick and with the lack of the Steelers’ running game they need to get back to playing good defense, which they did not do giving up 34 points to Oakland in their last game.
The Steelers had a bye last week and in the previous week they lost to the Oakland Raiders 34-31 while the Eagles moved to 3-1 with a solid 19-17 win over the New York Giants.
On the season the Eagles are only 0-3-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 1-3 and the Steelers are at 1-2 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 2-1.
Ben Roethlisberger has played well this season and he has a couple of great targets in Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace and these guys are THE guys to contain in this game by the Eagles and their 7th ranked pass defense. This is especially the case if Pittsburgh can’t run the ball again.
The Eagles’ run defense ranks a respectable 12th in the league and they will be facing a Pittsburgh rushing offense that ranks 2nd to last in the league. How bad is the Steelers rushing offense? Well, their leading rushers are Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer and neither of these RB’s has over 75 yards on the ground this season or is averaging over 3 yards per carry. Yeah, it’s that bad is Steel City. However, there is a chance RB Rashard Mendenhall will play this week.
Vick passed for 241 yards with 1 TD in the win over the Giants and for the 2nd straight game he did not have an INT. WR’s DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin and TE Brent Celek give Vick great targets and they will be a handful facing a Steelers’ pass defense that does rank 3rd in the league.
Pittsburgh lost the Oakland game because they gave up 119 rushing yards and their 14th ranked run defense has a tall task facing LeSean McCoy, who ranks 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards and is averaging a legit 4.7 yards per carry.
Pittsburgh has to play good all around defense and it would help if they could knock Vick around, but the Steelers’ pass rush only ranks 29th in the league with 5 sacks.
